Pathway to Freedom Counseling was founded by Meoshia Abrams, LICSW, with a vision to provide accessible, high-quality mental health care to the Birmingham and Surrounding Metropolitan Area community. With over 19 years of experience in inpatient psychiatric facilities, partial hospitalization programs, medical surge, veterans services, and substance abuse treatment, Meoshia built a practice rooted in evidence-based care and compassionate support.
As Meoshia worked with athletes and observed the unique mental health challenges they face—performance anxiety, identity beyond sport, team dynamics, and burnout—she recognized a critical gap. In 2024, Pathway to Peak Performance was launched as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to ensure every athlete, regardless of financial means, has access to specialized sports mental health care.
